Convergent Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Atlanta Company Recalls Humble Beginnings to Today's
Renowned Leader in Captivating Visual Communications
ATLANTA April 26, 2005
--
Convergent is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month as one of North America's leading providers of high-impact video and media-rich communications for the Fortune 100. Founded in 1980, Convergent has grown from a fledgling company operated out of a private home to its 43,300 square-foot Atlanta headquarters, complete with a state-of-the-art network operations center and help desk, digital signage content development center, all-digital broadcast production studio, eLearning lab, teleport, and research & development lab.
Over the past 25 years Convergent has perfected its multicast-enabled broadband Digital Media Platforms and today produces visually-compelling content for digital signage, interactive distance learning and business television. Convergent also designs, operates and maintains the networks that power these applications.
"Throughout its 25-year history, Convergent has maintained its commitment to high quality service and innovation for customers, from designing and managing secure, high performance networks to creating exciting new applications and visually engaging content," said Bryan Allen, Convergent President & CEO. "The company is proud of its heritage of long term, dedicated, productive employees; enduring customers who have continued to engage our services despite market changes and new competitors; and thriving partnerships that have allowed us to offer more winning visual communications solutions."
The Company was originally founded as VideoStar Connections Inc. in 1980 to provide temporary satellite television networks. Within several years Fortune 100 customers were contracting with VideoStar to build dedicated satellite TV networks which spawned the Business Television (BTV) market. BTV allowed geographically dispersed corporations to communicate with employees through high-impact broadcasts across their private satellite networks.
In 1989, VideoStar was acquired by Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and managed as the subsidiary, EDS Video Services. Three years later, EDS Video Services was spun off as Convergent.
Today, Convergent customers, from government agencies to financial institutions to retailers, have gained value from the company's experience in delivering broadcast- quality video and graphical content over digital networks. Businesses are able to run on-demand employee training and communications programs. And retailers use digital signage to grab the attention of customers as they're ready to buy with customized digital ads that can be changed based on time of day, viewing audience, etc.
Convergent has maintained loyal, long term relationships with market leaders, including Channel One, Merrill Lynch, Advance Auto, Unisys and EDS. Recent customers include Bell Canada and Bell World, Countrywide Financial Corp. and Kroger. Convergent is also credited with a number of innovations.
The Company
- implemented the first private Business Television network
- pioneered the use of the first Ku-band satellite for BTV
- created Interactive Distance Learning applications for BTV networks
- led the industry in adoption of IP-based technology for on-demand corporate video programming.
Convergent also received the inaugural Business Ethics Award of Georgia in 2001.
